At a distance of 25km from Chania towards Rethymnon, you’ll find the small fishing village of Almyrida. Almyrida has only been developed in the last ten years, and still remains unspoilt.
At the “entrance” of Almyrida, archeological searches have discovered mosaics and tombs which belong to the Royal Church Rhythm of the 5th century DC. The last battle with the Turkish invading army also took place in Almyrida in 1896. There are a lot of places of interest for our guests to visit,Saint Nicolas Gorge and the Diktamo Gorge are some of them.
Almyrida is often described as an area of infinite beauty with crystal clear waters, safe and organised beaches (awarded the blue flag every year). The hills, filled with olive trees, go far down to reach the coast, while the mountain range of Lefka Ori in the south, grant the area its cool, temperate climate.
There is regular bus transport to the city of Chania 20 meters from the Alkyone apartments, as well as 24 hour taxi service.
At the local “tavernas” and restaurants, you can enjoy the famous Cretan cuisine and fresh local fishes. And to finish off a great day, there are many choices for a night out, with bars, coffee shops etc, that offer fun by the sea front.
You’ll find many stores with traditional souvenirs, however, upon leaving the area, don’t forget to buy some of the locally made products, renowned for their exceptional quality: wine, olive oil, tsikoudia, honey and cheese.
